Turtle Tower (Tháp Rùa) sits on a tiny island south of the lake center—the classic Hanoi framing, but every tourist shoots it. Early morning isolation makes it yours. The red Sunbeam Bridge (Cầu Thê Húc) is the opposite: crowded always, but its arch frames ao dai in saturated color that no other backdrop matches.

North shore trees are overlooked. Dappled morning light softens skin and makes ao dai patterns pop without blown highlights. Temple ground (Ngoc Son, inside the compound) is sacred space—respectful dress required, early arrival means empty courtyards—and the interiors have stone textures that print beautifully in matte finishes.

Trousers must be loose but tailored; baggy fabric photographs as shapeless. Hike them to your natural waist, not low on hips—the ao dai drapes cleanly only when the base is aligned. If you're in a boat shoot or temple stairs, choose long trousers over cropped; water splash and stepping are real concerns.

Footwear is hidden in frame but affects posture: flat ballet slippers or embroidered silk shoes keep you grounded and let you move naturally around uneven stone paths. Heels date photos and twist ankles on wet surfaces.

Dry season (November–February) is the Hanoi photographer's favorite: cool mornings, zero rain, clear reflections, and crowds that stay indoors before 07:00. Sunrise here is magical. Ao dai colors feel crisp; makeup holds all day.

Monsoon (May–August) brings sudden downpours, swollen lake levels (some paths flood), and humid air that frizzes hair and fades makeup. Light is soft but unpredictable. If you must shoot in monsoon, schedule for early morning (before storm builds at midday) and pack a backup outfit.

April and September–October are transition months: humidity is high, but golden hour windows are sharp. Morning shoots (06:30–08:30) beat the heat; evening shoots (16:30–18:00) are sandwiched between building clouds.

First-hand reality: We rarely reschedule dry-season shoots due to weather. Monsoon season adds 1–2 contingency days to any booking.

Our standard ao dai photoshoot at Hoan Kiem runs 2–3 hours: 60 minutes at our Hanoi studio for makeup, hair, and ao dai selection; 90 minutes on-location; 30 minutes to cool down and review selects. You arrive at 08:30 for a 10:00–12:00 lake slot, or 15:30 for 17:00–19:00 golden hour.

What's included: Professional makeup artist (touch-ups mid-session); hair styling to suit ao dai and weather; ao dai (or we style your own); photographer with backup lighting for overcast conditions; 40–60 final images in color and monochrome; 4-week delivery to your email.

What we scout beforehand: We check lake water levels (monsoon swelling changes lower paths), temple opening hours, and security closure schedules. If a path floods or a monument is under maintenance, we pivot to backup spots 48 hours before your session.

Sunrise commitment: Sunrise shoots require 05:00 arrival at our studio. Confirm your travel schedule and energy level before booking.
Monsoon backup date: If you're visiting May–August, ask us about contingency rain dates when you book.
Temple etiquette: Ngoc Son Temple requires respectful dress (covered shoulders, knees); ao dai meets this. But some mornings the compound is closed for ceremonies. Confirm entry times before you arrive.
Reflections and water: Hoan Kiem reflections only work when water is calm (early morning). Windy afternoons = no mirror effect. Check the weather forecast 3 days before your session.
Edited files and prints: We deliver digital files in high resolution. If you want prints, keepsakes, or pre-wedding albums, ask about those options when you quote.
