The Ancient Town's mustard-yellow walls are photogenic from every angle; the Japanese Covered Bridge is iconic; lantern boats drift on the Thu Bon River after dusk; the lantern-lit streets glow at night; and Tra Que vegetable village offers a quieter, more rural contrast. Hoi An requires an appointment since our team travels there, but the light and atmosphere make it worth the planning. Many couples wear traditional Vietnamese áo dài for at least part of the shoot—it photographs beautifully and feels special for a video. Áo dài comes in dozens of shades and styles, from classic white or red to pastels and modern cuts. Some couples do multiple outfit changes throughout the day: áo dài for one location, Western wedding dress or suit for another, casual clothes for a candid morning moment. Plan for whatever feels authentic to you.

Practically speaking, wear layers if you're shooting early morning or late afternoon—Vietnam's temperature can shift, and you might want a shawl over your áo dài. Comfortable shoes matter because you'll be walking, even if we're filming. Bring a change of shoes in your bag if your wedding heels are uncomfortable for pavement. Jewelry should be minimal and timeless; delicate pieces read better on camera than chunky statement jewelry. If you're doing makeup and hair in your room beforehand, make sure the lighting is decent and there's a comfortable place to sit.

Beyond wardrobe: get a good night's sleep the night before. Hydrate. Eat breakfast. The camera sees tired eyes and stress immediately. Bring touch-up makeup, a small mirror, and bobby pins in case anything needs a quick fix between locations. Most importantly, trust the process. The moments that feel most natural on camera are rarely the ones where you're "posing." We direct you loosely—walk this way, look at each other, laugh—but the magic happens when you relax into it.

Timing makes or breaks a video. Golden hour—the first hour after sunrise or the last hour before sunset—gives you warm, directional light that's incredibly flattering and cinematic. In Vietnam, sunrise is around 5:30–6:30am depending on the season, and sunset is around 5–6pm. If you're flying in from abroad and jet-lagged, an afternoon shoot might suit you better; we'll work with the available light and adjust the locations to compensate. Midday sun is harsh and unflattering, so most shoots happen early morning or late afternoon.

Season matters too. Vietnam's winter (October to April) is cooler and drier, especially in Hanoi and Saigon. This is the sweet spot for comfort and light—you won't be sweating through your áo dài, and the sky tends to be clearer. Summer (May to September) is hot, humid, and monsoon season brings rain. That said, rain isn't a dealbreaker for video; it creates mood and drama. Puddles reflect the sky beautifully. Wet pavement glistens. We've shot in rain before and the results are atmospheric, even romantic. Just know that timing gets trickier—wind can mess with hair, and we'll work around shelter and indoor locations if needed.

Check the forecast a week before your shoot and again a few days out. If the day looks rainy, we'll plan indoor or covered locations: temple courtyards with overhangs, covered market areas, hotel lobbies, colonial buildings. If it's scorching hot, we'll shoot early morning and find shaded routes. The point is: weather happens, and we adapt. Vietnam's light and landscape are stunning even in imperfect conditions. Video works best when paired with photography because you're already doing the shoot. That's the whole point—you're not stopping to film separately. Our videographer moves alongside your photographer capturing the same moments from a slightly different angle and perspective. Both work.
